The cooperation between SCHOTT (one of the world's leading glass manufacturing groups) and Csonka és Fiai Kft. began in 1994.
The SCHOTT Rohrglas Management instructed the office in Budapest to find a partner who could buy the glass tubes they produced. At that time, no one in Hungary was using the high quality Duran(R) glass tubes. However, after a long and difficult series of negotiations, the manager of a small company in Sopron, Tivadar Csonka, managed to reach an agreement with the German factory and to start importing the tubes.
At that time, our most important German customer was not far from Mitterteich, to whom we delivered every two weeks. A few minutes' detour and we could load our van on the way back (sometimes with trailer) and come back with the goods. Once we were there, the transport cost nothing, our father thought...
In December 1994, Hermann Tietze took charge, who has been working in Mitterteich ever since and attended the anniversary celebrations with his colleagues. The relationship continued to develop and new milestones were reached. 100 tonne celebrations, when we became the first company to import 100 tonnes in a year, anniversaries and when we also manufactured products for them. Of course, other SCHOTT factories and products were also included in the cooperation, such as laboratory glassware (this has since been continued within the DWK Life Sciences Group), Jenaer Glas household glassware (after its closure in 2005, we established our own brand Trendglas Jena).
30 years is a long time, both for a family-owned company and for a multinational. During this time, we have been able to learn and grow with the help of SCHOTT, who played a major role in enabling us to start rebuilding our new factory in Sopron in 1997. We were able to learn about business culture, knowledge of glass, planning for the future, the mindset of international companies, understanding quality ...
Of course, long-lasting business relationships can develop into friendships, and in Hermann's case, they did. So it was no question that he and his colleagues made the trip to Sopron at the first call.
The ceremony was also attended by Ádám Magas, Vice President of the Sopron Chamber of Commerce and Árpád Kováts, Secretary of the Chamber, who paid tribute to the companies involved in the cooperation. A certificate and a Chamber commemorative medal were presented to the executives of SCHOTT AG who were present.
